Fortin Ironworks Builds Quality

Fortin Ironworks builds quality and value into every gate we fabricate. Our complete line of gates are constructed with quality materials and skilled craftsmanship to fit any budget.

We weld all gate components to the gate frame rather than using fasteners that eventually loosen. We also employ stylish hand forged embellishments for an old world look of quality. When purchasing a Fortin Ironworks gate, you can be confident that you are making a sound investment for your home or business.

Every gate is based on a layout, as noted on each individual gate style. Gate styles shown are 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall for single leaf gates and 5 feet wide by 4 feet tall for double leaf gates. Single leaf and double leaf gates use a heavy gauge 3/16″ thick by 2″ square tubing post. Every gate is welded together at every joint allowing for a stronger durability. Gates are primed and painted black. An upgrade of premium finishes will include a sandblasted preparation and a custom colored powder coat finish with multiple coats. Gate styles and prices may vary as length and height ratios change. Custom gate panels are available to improve layout spacing as necessary.

Construction Is Key

Construction is the key to a structurally sound gate. Every material union is solidly welded which when completed effectively unifies the gate forming one solid structure. Unlike mechanical fasteners such as bolts and nuts, these welded unions will not degrade over time. Properly placed and configured diagonal cross braces are used to keep the gate rigid and prevent the gate from sagging over time.

Materials Are The Foundation

Materials are the foundation of a quality gate. We use only the highest quality steel to construct our gates. We use solid ½”x1″ rectangular steel as the end bars, ½”x1″ by 1/8″ thick channel for the horizontals and ½” square solid steel for the vertical pickets. We generally use 2″ square tubing 3/16″ thick posts. Many of our gate styles employ hand forged scrolls & ornamentation. We use only solid material for these applications. If the style warrants, we use solid precision cut 1/2″ sheet material to make business logos, initials, numbers, scrolls or just about anything you can imagine.

Measure Twice, Cut Once

It is critical to have a properly sized gate for your application. The base-styles shown in our walk gate pricing catalog are shown as 4 feet tall by 4 feet wide. We embrace the uniqueness of every project. Since we are the manufacturer, we can custom tailor your gates size and proportions to your application. We will field measure the future site of your gate after your walkway construction is completed. If you are installing masonry columns along your walkway, we will supply you with gate liner posts to be installed before the columns are installed. The masonry is then applied over the liner post and the gate hinge system will extend out past. Once the liner posts are installed, we will then field measure to ensure a proper fit.

We are the manufacturer! We do not pre-make our gates and warehouse them awaiting order. As stated above, our gates are made to fit your specific needs. This ensures proper proportion and fit into your site. We provide you with an array of base-styles that can be customized to no end. We do not only customize the physical size of our gates, we also customize the style of our gates. You will have the option to design your gate to pick up on styling cues from your existing architecture. You can match existing ironwork or make your gate really stand out. Hand worked scrolls, precision cut logos and fine details are just some of the items that can be customized on your gate. If you would like more or less substantial materials, we can do that too. Customization options are endless.

A premium powder coated finish is highly recommended. We bake on our polyester powder coat only after the gate is fabricated an prepared properly. After fabrication, all welds are sanded smooth to form a seamless structure. From there, the gate is cleaned by sandblasting to remove any contaminants on the material. A polyester powder coat is applied and baked on for an incredible finish.
